It is official, the #ShareTheSpace pilot, that saw the Sea Point Promenade opened to bicycles, skateboards and rollerbladers, over the past few months, has been a resounding success! The City now plans to keep the Prom open indefinitely! This is a huge step forward in creating a truly inclusive, connected city and extending the cycleway from the city centre and Green Point right through Sea Point.
It is a source of great pride for me that the lifting of the prohibition has resulted not only in increased inclusivity on the promenade, but also increased access, diversity and tolerance amongst those enjoying the amenity. It is precisely this kind of respect for each other that we as a City are working to instil in our residents
– Councillor Brett Herron (City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Roads and Stormwater). If you are looking to explore this new cycleway why not join in the fun with Promenade Mondays – a weekly (every Monday) sunset social push/roll/skate along the Sea Point Promenade. Need a bike? Then pop into Up-Cycles bicycle rental booth at the Sea Point Pool.
