We host some of the best urban bike events in the city. From highlight events like Bike Nite and Freedom Ride to monthly CycleKiDS family rides. Throughout the year we run bicycle education workshops and promote cycling at various city events through activations and group Bike Bus rides. Have a look at our upcoming events for the year.
As CPT’s premiere bicycle networking event, Bike Nite draws around 100 attendees from city cyclists to designers and urban change makers. Hosted at Truth Cafe, the event features Pecha Kucha style talks (short, engaging, inspiring) and open conversations that explore different aspect of Cape Town’s bicycle culture – from pressing advocacy issues to local bicycle businesses and urban change initiatives. We invite you to join us and meet CPT’s dynamic bike-loving community.
Launching in 2016 the Slow Roll event, picks up from our popular Spring Ride, which saw over 100 city cyclists enjoy a slow roll along the car-free Atlantic Seaboard and Greenpoint cycleways. The event aims to promote active mobility and activate the city with bicycles – inspiring Capetonians to get outside and ride their bikes, skate-on their boards and walk run and play in the city.
CycleKiDS FULL MOON RIDE
Our monthly family biking event, takes place every full moon and follows a traffic free route around Rondebosch Common. It’s a fun, safe way to introduce children to cycling and get the whole family out and about on bicycles. Rides are suitable for kids of all ages including those on balance bikes. Skateboards and anything else that rolls are welcome too! Join the next ride or help out by volunteering as a ride marshal or sponsoring an event.
Our hands-on workshops are designed to empower people to understand and repair their own bicycles. Led by the talented mechanics of Woodstock Cycleworks, these workshops cover all aspects of bicycle repair and maintenance – from a beginners course in basic bicycle maintenance and puncture repair to an advanced course that will give you the skills to be more self sufficient and make your rides easier and safer.
Throughout the year we promote cycling and active mobility at various city events like Open Streets, TedX CT, The Eco Film Festival and the Hout Bay Green Fair. Activations range from organizing group rides/ Bike Bus commutes to events, to setting up bike parking valets services. We also involved in various local initiatives that promote bicycle culture like the Bicycle Film Festival, Bike Style (Pop-up shop) and the Naked Bike Ride.
Our free urban bicycling classes will get you biking safely and confidently in the city. Led by seasoned cyclists and bicycle commuters #CyclingTheCity is perfect for newbie cyclists or those who want to learn quick, safe cycle routes in and around the city and suburbs. Plus the rides are a whole lot of fun, with mandatory pit stops for coffee and snacks too.
In 2014 we joined the organising team for Freedom Ride – a social ride celebrating the power of the bicycle to connect our communities. The event was a huge success with over 2000 people of all ages, across diverse cultural backgrounds coming together to cycle 27km in honor of Madiba and to celebrate his legacy of freedom and unity.
