FAQs – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT #BIKEBUS
What if I can’t continue or if I get a puncture?
In the true spirit of the bicycle commute, there are no support vehicles on this ride. We ask that everyone be self sufficient – bring your own pump, spare tube and/or puncture repair kit and know how to fix it yourself. One of our ride marshals will stay with you to help and show you the way. If needed you can always hop on the train/ MyCiti bus to complete your journey so bring your card/ticket.
Safety and responsibility:
You are responsible for your own safety while riding with the group. Our ride marshals will be guiding you, so please follow their lead. Always ride responsibly and stay alert. The best thing about the bike bus is safety in numbers. The more people who ride together, the higher the visibility the bike bus has, making it much safer compared to cycling alone.
Is there a ride back/ How do I get home?
There will be a return group ride to the Southern Suburbs, time and departure point will be confirmed on the day. We will also ask that everyone who is cycling back departs from the departure point on the hour. That way you will be able to join up with other cyclists or our ride marshals who are returning at that time. Alternatively you can use public transport options.
More about Open Streets
“Open Streets” is a worldwide movement of citizens who are reclaiming their streets as public space. During an ‘Open Streets Day’, streets are closed off to motorised transport to create a platform for community building and healthy recreational activity.
Rather than being an event, Open Streets is simply a day to reimagine public life and use our streets differently. Open Streets Cape Town is a non-profit organisation working to create shared spaces that embody respect for everyone and help bridge the spatial and social divides of our city.
