Bike Nite : Uncovered
November 25, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
This month Bike Nite goes behind the scenes to uncover some of Cape Town’s exciting fringe cycling events, as well as unpack the city’s cycle network developments and advocacy issues.
Hosted by Truth Cafe, Bike Nite features Pecha Kucha style talks (short, engaging, inspiring) and open conversations – it is your opportunity to network with Cape Town’s cycling community and have your say about issues that affect you.
TOUR OF ARAE – Stan Engelbrecht (Bicycle Portraits) gives us a behind the scenes look at what has to be one of SA’s toughest multistage bicycle races.
VELODROME – Jaco Scholtz (Track Cycling SA) talks on track cycling and the rise of the Velodrome.
BEEYOND A BIKE – Canadian bicycle mechanic and traveling cyclist, Brenna Coupland shares the story of her journey to empower communities around the world through bicycle accessibility and mechanical education. A journey that has taken her from Guatemala City to Cape Town where she has started a Bike Club at Fisantekraal High School.
2014 CYCLE NETWORK FEEDBACK – Andrew Wheeldon (Bicycle Cities) unpacks NMT and cycle network projects around the city. We will be discussing pressing advocacy issues and exploring Cape Town’s current and future cycle network developments.
2015 IMAGININGS – Lead by Marcela of Open Streets – this is your space to give feedback about what you want to see happen next year in the city, and how you want to be involved – maybe it’s a cycle lane in your neighborhood, or a local event or ride.
BEE The CHANGE!
This #BikeNITE we are asking everyone to bring any unwanted cycling gear (helmets, tools, clothes etc) or kids bikes (yes please!!) to donate to the Bike Club at Fisantekraal High School. The club was started by Canadian bicycle mechanic and traveling cyclist, Brenna Coupland (Beeyond A Bike) who will be sharing the story of her journey to empower communities around the world through bicycle accessibility and mechanical education!
Food and drink will be on sale at Truth.
Bike Nite is brought to you by Bicycle Cape Town – Cape Town’s community cycling campaign.
