This year TEDxCapeTown launched its bicycle friendly initiative to encourage attendees to cycle to the event and promote sustainable mobility
At the venue they had a first class bicycle valet service providing secure parking for cyclists. Here cyclists could drop off their bicycles and get a ticket (much like a coat valet service). Their bicycles where then parked in a security monitored area for the duration of their stay.
BICYCLE INSPIRED TALKS
We were thrilled that the TEDxprogram also included a bicycle inspired talk by Bicycle CPT activist and urban designer, Kirsten Wilkins on Open Source Urban Deign – exploring what it means to take open source thinking to the streets of Cape Town. Here she shared how her discovery of the joy and social change potential of the bicycle became a catalytic moment of her journey to stop designing from a desk and disrupt for change.
BICYCLE RIDES AND EXPLORATIONS
On Sunday morning Kirsten lead a host of thinkers, change makers and participants at TEDxCapeTown on a bicycle ride through the city, exploring public spaces and solidifying a change of mind with a change in behavior. (View the album on Facebook).
Talk becomes action, and action becomes the transformation of Cape Town into a truly cycle-friendly city.
TEDxCapeTown: Design Your Thinking
Saturday, August 16, 2014 – 09:00 – Sunday, August 17, 2014 – 13:00
We all have our own filters and lenses through which we view the world. We all posses the ability to alter our perceptions and design the way we think.
TEDxCapeTown 2014 will focus on this. The WHY behind someone’s idea. What informed the way the idea came about. And how this perspective can result in something amazing with the potential of positive impact in the world we live in.
