Last night we attended the launch of Ubuntu Bikes and were blown away by their passion and dedication to transforming everyday bicycles into one-of-a-kind works of art that showcase the talents of local artists.
For the evening the Ubuntu Bikes’ inner city studio had been transformed into a visual feast that would have had any cycle-phile shaking with desire – from vintage bikes, lovingly up-cycled and turned into unique designer pieces to stylish client commissioned paint jobs and handcrafted bicycle accessories. A highlight of the evening was the launch of the Cycle Style Calendar – cycling’s answer to the Pirelli calendar – featuring beautiful bikes and stunningly chic ladies!
As a social enterprise Ubuntu bikes is commited to giving back – artists and crafters get fair pay for their work and a portion of the profits go to the Ubuntu Trust which supports local community based empowerment organizations like the Bicycling Empowerment Network,Cape Town Society for the Blind and The Kidzpositive Family Fund.
